Free photos
Hello, does anyone know of a place where I can download free images to use on a website?

It's for a charity website so there isn't much money about. And they want pics of real places/events/people, rather than just generic pics of sunsets etc.

Any help appreciated. Cheers.

Re: Free photos
Should be simple enough

1(a). Go to flickr
1(b). Search for images.
2. Contact the photographer direct.
3. Explain it is for charity.
4. Tell them they will get credited on the website (and actually do do this).
5. If they refuse, go back to 1(b)

GD. Photos on www.istockphoto.com are incredibly cheap if you don't need high resolution. I think you can find what you are looking for there.

Gary - In your random example, pics 2,3 & 4 would be quite easy to find on free stock photo sites. I don't have the time right now, but if I remember, I'll put up some example links tomorrow if you like.

Greenie1 is right about flickr too. My daughter has had several of her photos used by some top organisations/publications/websites. They asked for her permission to use them, and she was delighted (as was I).

Gary - have you looked on flickr? Do a search and then email the photographer if you see anything you like and want to use. Most people will be happy to help out just as long as they get a mention.

OK, thanks. That's something I cannot help with at all but maybe others can.

Re: Free photos
A random "for example"...

Someone in a slum in Rio gets kicked out of their house by the police and is forced to live on the streets because the govt want to build a new mall.

In order of preference, the photos that would go with this story...

1) pic of the favela in question
2) pic of brazilian police
3) pic of rio
4) pic of brazilian flag

The charity deals with forced evictions and housing rights - a big issue in the developing world.

Re: Free photos
Gary,

Give us a "for example' of the images they are looking for?
